The Q’s Victoria Track Series is a multi-meet series of track meets that starts in May and runs through July (check registration page for specific dates). 2012 is year 3! Not too far off!!
Emphasis is on fun! The Series is a low-key, light-on-the-frills track series, where first-timers, joggers, semi-serious and elite athletes have opportunities to race on the track, competing at middle distances (and 5000m) in individual races or competing for series placement.
All meets happen on Saturdays.
Meets take place at Jack Wallace Memorial Track at Oak Bay High School, behind Oak Bay Recreation Centre, and at the University of Victoria’s Centennial Stadium.
All meet nights start at 6:30 PM.
During the series there are pretty much equal opportunities for anyone who wishes to run, to race in each of the distances of 400m, 800m, 1500m, 1609m (classic 1 mile distance), 3000m, 5000m and 10,000m Elite.
For series awards standings, runners need to take in a minimum of four races, one being at the 5000m distance.
FAQs
PLEASE READ:
- Start times are rough estimates, except for the 6:30 PM start. Other than the first run of the night (at 6:30 PM), the rest of the races are rolling, meaning they start when they start. It is the athlete’s responsibility to be at the track and warmed-up/prepared for their race(s) well in advance of the posted starting time. No refunds. No whining.
- Awards – per-race: Individual races will be competed for overall placement in that particular race, top-three PLACEMENT OVERALL get medals. HOWEVER, if a selection is added for THAT SAME category the top-3 overall times will be awarded top-three placings. Tip: If you know that a selection has been added to your category, race harder – no tactics, if you want to place top-three.
- AWARDS – season: Top-three medals will be awarded in ten year age-groups, which is different than the top-three placement OVERALL for individual races. Individual races will not be contested for age-groups, the placement within your age-group will be tallied for your Series Competition standings for awards to be handed out sometimeon August 28th at the STICKY WICKET season ending awards soiree and silent auction fundraiser.
- Day of Registration: If you plan to register on the day of the race. Please bring printed off registration form and cash money only to the event and be registered by 6:00 PM and no later. If you are later than that, there will be no guarantee of your participation.
- Pacing others: Officially, no pacing. BC Athletics officials will be on hand at all race events throughout the series. Some runners will be competing for records of various levels. No pacing will be permitted.
- Spectating: Please tell everyone you know about the series and your racing. The Charity of Choice is the Mustard Seed Foodbank. For spectating, please bring a non-perishable food item or a small cash donation. You or your spectating support friends & family may go nearly anywhere at the track however, must be very clear of the BC Athletics Officials and not to impede any runner in anyway – enjoy the infield and the VERY unique perspective of watching a race from inside the track.
- Volunteerism: Feel free to offer your skilz. Email me here info@victoriatrackseries.ca.
*’Section’ is an added race in already contested category. For example, you just competed in a 1500m race and finished 1st, 2nd or 3rd. You will now have to wait for the newly added 1500m race to be completed to know if your time (NOT PLACEMENT) stands up as top-3 on that night if it is run in your category. You will not be competing against elites in sections if you are an open-mixed runner.
