Victoria, BC – (May 15, 2010) – 80-year old Maurice Tarrant raced in the 3000m event at the Q’s Victoria Track Series Saturday May 15, breaking the Canadian 80 plus age group record, with his finishing time of 14:07’0. The previous mark was 16:03’02.

“Maurice told me that he was aiming for ‘14:00’ shortly before the race started. When he says that, you don’t question him – he did it of course, what an accomplishment!”
-Christopher Kelsall, Series Director.

The world record 13:10.46 by Yoshimitsu Miyauchi of Japan remains.

Saturday night offered two distances for runners of all abilities to compete in, 1500m and 3000m and was meet number 2 of this series’ 8 meets.

All events take place at the Jack Wallace Memorial Track at Oak Bay High School on 8 Saturdays between May 1st and August 21st 2010 starting at 6:30 PM.

The Q’s Victoria Track Series also is a qualifier event for any master age athlete (40+) wishing to compete in the Master’s Mile during the running of the Victoria International Track Classic July 7th at the University of Victoria’s Centennial Stadium.

Congratulations to all runners who enjoyed two distances, the 1500m and 3000m.
