Meet # 6
The Q’s Victoria Track Series meet number 6 that happened Saturday, July 31st included two distances, 800m and the classic mile with a total of 4 races, Open – Mixed 800m and Men’s Elite 800m – the same for the 1 mile distance.
Willy Langat won the men’s elite mile in a time of 4:31.3 followed by Nick Walker in 4:38.6 and Keith Mills with his finishing time of 4:44.9.
In the open mile event Michael Lord won handily with his time of 5:00.6, Jim Barwise and Buddy Bhandar followed. There was no contest as Lord took the lead immediately and pulled away to a convincing win.
In the open 800m Chris Callender also pulled to an early lead and hung on to win in a very good time for him, followed by Brett McCullough and Jim Barwise. Barwise ran two races on the evening.
In the elite 800m there were just 3 competitors, John Pratt beat Willy Langat by 2:00.2 to 2:01.9, third was Nick Walker with is 2:06.2 – Langat and Walker raced twice on the evening.That was Willy’s second defeat, as he has finished first in all other meet races to date.
David Guss from Calgary, Alberta who raced the men’s mile, ran what is a pending, Alberta provincial record with his 4:48.7. Both him and Paul O’Callaghan were attempting their own two separate provincial age-group record – the Canadian record is 4:39.
The next track meet is August 14, followed by August 21st and the awards night and silent auction at the Sticky Wicket Pub, Sunday August 22nd.
